Mohamed is 24. He is from Yemen and has been living in Roermond for 5 years. Things are going well for him now. He has a job, is married, and is going to be a father! But Mohamed also had a difficult time for a long period. He fled from Yemen when he was not yet 17 years old. “I’ve been through a lot, and you don’t forget that quickly,” Mohamed says. For a long time, he felt lonely. Fortunately, that’s different now. For a few years, his mother and younger brothers have been living on the Donderberg as well. As he says, he is a fighter. After a tough period, he is now proud and content with his life.
In the past months, four Neighborhood Restaurants have been organized on the Donderberg. Through various neighborhood initiatives, people are invited who could use some support. Mohamed: “I was pleasantly surprised when I was invited to the Neighborhood Restaurant. It was really a very nice evening at Bali Indonesia restaurant. I went there with my younger brother Saleh. We ate delicious food and laughed a lot. That evening I had a night shift. After the wonderful food and great conversations, I went to work full of energy. I would love to go back again with my wife Belqes.”
