Jan takes a walk with his dog Jara through the Vliegeniersbuurt. He goes for a stroll several times a day. Sometimes he walks with Jara, and sometimes with his other dog, Noa.
There’s a reason he doesn’t walk both dogs at the same time. “One autumn day, I took them both out together. I was talking to someone when a woman approached with a small dog. She wanted her dog to meet mine. I didn’t notice it right away. My dogs pulled on their leashes, and the leaves made the ground slippery. I ended up bumping into the woman. That was awkward. Since then, I walk the dogs separately. And that hasn’t changed. And with this beautiful spring weather, it’s really not a problem,” Jan laughs. He chooses a different route each time, otherwise it gets boring — for him and the dogs.
Jan has been retired for two years. He used to work as a house painter, including on old, historic buildings. Now that he has more free time, he enjoys walking and cycling a lot — often together with his wife. He truly enjoys it.
Jan enjoys living on the Terbaansweg. Still, there is something that worries him. “Cars, motorcycles, and trikes often speed down our street. That concerns me. What if a child suddenly crosses the road? You don’t even want to think about that.”
